I hear the radio over my Broadband Cable line when using VoIP?

I have a 400ft run of buried broadband cable running down my driveway. When I connect the VoIP TAD unit to my cable modem and listen to a phone I have plugged into the TAD I hear the dial tone but very clearly also hear a Spanish rock station. I’m guessing that the long run is causing my cable line to behave like an antenna but I don’t know how to filter it out. Any ideas are appreciated.
I most likely should have added earlier that this is my second cable. The first was the wrong type for that long of a run. Sorry about that.

there is only one way to fix that….call the cable company have them install another cable….I had to do the same thing….and then it worked…they had to call the supervision….the regular installer didn’t know what could be done!

but now the problem it fixed!! I also have VoIP!!

OMG that bites! I’m thinking you’ll have to get it reinstalled as well…unless you ordered Spanish Muzak??? Hehehe. Seriously, give your cable co a call.

Make sure you ground the NID – network interface device properly. That’s the box on your house that the cable enters into. There should be a ground lug (bolt) labeled on the unit. If there is no at least AWG12 wire attached to it, there is your problem. Get a piece of ground wire and run it to the nearest cold water pipe and clamp to it using a proper grounding clamp. Home Depot would carry all the parts you need. Also, the problem is most likely NOT the buried cable simply because there is not much reception UNDER the ground. Seriously, you are probably picking up some interference between your NID on the house and the VoIP gateway. Besides, there simply cannot be any interference in VoIP until it hits the VoIP gateway that converts it back to analog, which is the form of signal susceptible to interference.

It seems a weird problem to have but basically any interference problem is usually treated with proper grounding.

check you phone first…some phones right out of the box have radio noise/design issues..the cheaper the phone the more likely the phone is substandard…check a radio near the phone and find that same station….any unbalance in your twisted pair copper phone wiring will act like a antenna picking up RF…series resistance(loose connections) create the same thing/RF….the closer that radio station is to your site the more careful you need to be with your wire/cords/phones…check that phone and cord in a neighbors home who has no RF trouble to verify that it is good….also if that phone says “total” brand throw it out….lol…if you must you can buy in-line and plug-able RF filters too…
