I use a cheap entry model GPS from TomTom, does the job well. Look for text to voice features and decide whether you want the street names to be announced, as that is a feature i dont have on my entry model. If you could live with just “turn left, turn right in two miles, etc” then any entry model GPS from any reputable GPS maker will do. TomTom, Garmin, Magellan, etc. Make sure you’re getting the latest maps and a free map download code to update your GPS after 2-3 years of use.

Main feature when buy GPS : text-to-speech, wide screen, bluetooth, (mp3 player-lane assist-personal travel assistant-multi-destination routing-where am I function-Integrated FM receiver with lifetime traffic (have only in advance model or high model)).

Garmin is a best gps system, Garmin has a simple controls – simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, has a turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and more feature.

    I suggestion a Garmin nuvi in an advance model is a 255W, 760, 765T.

255W: same as 205W but has text-to-speech (you get turn by turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. “turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way”, rather than merely “turn left in 50 feet”)), 4.3-Inch diagonal touch screen color display, where am I function, etc.

760 : has text-to-speech, 4.3-Inch diagonal touch screen color display, bluetooth, speed limit Indicator, where am I- where’s my car function, multi-destination routing, etc.

765T : has text-to-speech, 4.3-Inch diagonal touch screen color display, bluetooth, speed limit Indicator, where am I- where’s my car function, multi-destination routing, lane assist, free real-time traffic updates from Navteq, etc.

A wide screen. One that talks and tells you what street you will be turning on. One that will allow you to upload newer maps. I just bought Garmin 255W and love it It’s great and not that expensive. you can get a lot more features if you are willing to pay. But this is all I need

make sure it comes with car charger
    house charger
    holder
    battery
    carry case
    sd card (this is important)
    maps (installed)
and software: amigo, igo, tomtom, or iguidance – are all good

same thing here for half the price and twice the features:
